Aloha ‘Oe

It is with extremely sad hearts that we announce Mom’s passing.  On Thursday, August 7th, 2014, Mom was diagnosed with cancer that had metastasized to her Liver.  She was not ingesting enough liquids and food, prompting her to be transported on Saturday, August 9th, to Renown in Reno to get her hydrated and for further testing.  They found that her kidneys were not functioning properly, and after complications while attempting to clear that issue, the doctors were forced to abort the procedure.  We made sure Mom was comfortable, where she passed away around 5:20pm on Sunday, August 10th.

Mom wishes to be cremated and returned to the Big Island (Hawaii).  Today (August 13), Mom will be transported from the hospital to a local mortuary for her cremation.  She will return to us when that process is complete and spend time with us here until we are able to return her home to the Big Island.

We are tentatively thinking that her service will be towards the end of September and we would like for everyone to have sufficient time to make arrangement to join us for the celebration of her life.

Thank you everyone for the kind words to our family during this difficult time.  We know that we don’t shed tears alone.

With the many tears shed, I bid Aloha ‘Oe to the one that gave me life, the Matriarch of our Ohana, and a wonderful tutu (grandmother) to my children.

I love you Mom!

Kawika

  1. My deepest sympathies to the family of Haunani. Words cannot express the sadness you must feel when you lose a loved one. May your memories help you through this difficult time.

I remember the beautiful photos she took of flowers… I put 3 photos in a 3-picture frame as a gift to one of my friends, and she absolutely loved it.

I can still remember when Kessie told her that her booking goal was $300,000 per month (it was less than that) so that she would always make a bonus if she met her “goal”. The three of us laughed and laughed when Haunani figured it out.

Oh, and she would not eat anything blue, so I would take all the blue M&Ms and put it in a napkin on her desk. She would give me the “eye”, then we would burst out laughing. :)

I will miss you, Haunani, and your easy laughter.

  2. The heart remembers most to someone that is dear to you. I am sadden to hear the lost to a wonderful person and friend. Haunani was full of love and life with work and her family….I can still hear her laugh! She was very passion in her work…always taking care of the wedding couple and all the people she worked with. Her work morals really spoiled all of us as she made it look so easy. Haunani touched a lot of people in the wedding industry; she was dearly missed when she left the Big Island to start a new journey with her family in the mainland.

My friend, your memory will live forever, although we will not be able to hug you when you return home…but your spirit will always be with us.

My deepest condolence goes out to family, I was very privileged to know your mom and wife as we will always remember the joyous memories of her.

    Blessings and aloha,

    Flo

  4. Aloha, It is with great sadness that I write this note to you. Your family has suffered such a great loss. Haunani was the most wonderful lady I have ever met. Her spirt just made you soar with happiness. She was a bright shining light with a smile so infectious. My husband John and I both worked with Haunani at the Orchid while she was in Catering. John loved her so much and they are now both in heaven. I hope they give each other a big hug from all of us who are left behind. They will never be forgotton. Aloha ‘Oe Haunani – We will see you again. Cathy Danchertsen

  7. My condolences on the passing of Haunani…your beloved Wife, Mother and Tutu.

Haunani was my Wedding Planner at the Orchid back in 2004 and I was fortunate enough to keep in-touch with her until she moved to the Mainland several years ago.

Besides being an AWESOME Wedding Planner for us, she taught me alot about the world of Weddings as a fellow planner and for that I will always be grateful.

Our Love and Aloha to you Haunani…Mahalo for being you!

  8. We were shocked to learn of Haunani’s untimely passing. What a wonderful person to have left us way too early. She made this world a much better place for all that were fortunate enough to know her. We will always think of her with great fondness.

Haunani was a bright light in my life. She is missed terribly by me, and the thought I will not see her again on this earth is incomprehensible. You must all be at such a loss missing this beautiful one of a kind lady. I love you, and may God and his angels keep you close until we are all together again, with no more tears.

  11. Haunani…so full of life and true Aloha. I can see her smiling face and hear her laughter. Always will. I am one of her many Irvine cousins. All our love to your Ohana. Kathy (Irvine) & Cliff Corpuz Family

  12. Our deepest condolences and prayers to Haunani’s loving and devoted husband Marshall, sons Lauren and Ryan, her treasured and beloved grandchildren, father Ralph Irvine and extended Ohana. Haunani’s passing has affected us all very deeply. Sadness and loss cannot describe our emotions upon learning of her passing. Although she’ll always remain in our hearts, we’ll very much miss her physical presence. Haunani exemplified the Aloha spirit and was the consummate example of class, dignity and compassion. Her beauty, pleasantry and contagious laughter will be very much missed. May our prayers bring some comfort to her Ohana.

    ETERNAL LOVE & ALOHA,
Eva, Butch, Keith, Kelii & Melissa Irvine (…and we’d like to take the liberty of including our Papa, “Uncle” Clint, who passed in September of 2011 – Dad adored Haunani).

  13. Dear Marshall and Family ,

I am sorry we are not able to be with you this weekend @ the celebration of Haunani`s full and forceful life.
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all as the journey continues.

    The Way of Aloha

Haunani, an accomplished professional dedicated to exacting customer service.
A team builder ready to coach & encourage others to be their best.
Always apparent & ever present, a genuine vibrant Aloha Spirit.
Quick smile and long lasting ripples of laughter, the tone of all interactions.

As I navigated from operations to administration, all those years ago.
I will always remember Haunani`s kind assistance and assured support.
Considering Catering & F/B were not initially entirely familiar to Haunani.
Her quick adaption and competence served guest and comrade well.
Subsequent specialization in wedding event planning evidenced her
eventual mastery of perhaps Catering`s most demanding area of service .
Weddings: Brides, Grooms, In-laws, Cakes, Wines, Music all the Madness !
Having planned and perfected her own family , she set about helping others start their exciting journey.
Surely a natural evolution which no doubt brought professional and personal satisfaction.
Having her own family grow and strengthen, of course the ultimate triumph.
Her legacy, “The Way of Aloha” a family tradition that will continue and endure.
Those of us part of Haunani`s work family join the ohana in celebrating her wonderful life.
Working with her was indeed an honor and pleasure, we had fun !!

    God Bless Haunani and Family

    Sincerely,

  14. I ran across this an mahalo for some details. I knew Haunani/Nani/Charmaine from 6th grade through high school. She always reminded me of someone who was about to burst out with something happy but didn’t want to embarrass you because you weren’t as happy. Not a lot of kids that long ago an I picture what they would be like if I saw them today. Nani I can picture. Haven’t spoken for 30+ years, but feel like I would be comfortable talking in an instant. My heart goes out to friends and especially family who I’m sure miss that smile daily. There needs to be more people like Nani in the world.

  15. Haunani…
Kind, Welcoming, Happy, Smart, Charming, Loving and yes all those other traits that made her so successful at everything she did. I am so sorry for your loss and the loss to the world. Everyone she touched was made better by the interaction.
